Standardized Test Prep
ATAC offers individualized test preparation in:
|
All tutoring sessions for standardized test preparation are one-to-one and tailored to the specific learning needs of the student. Individualized tutoring provides a comfortable learning environment for students to build specific skills and to have questions about the exams addressed directly, unlike group classes which focus more on general strategy.
Our tutors begin with a diagnostic session to assess where specific skill work should start. If a student is stronger in one area (example: higher math ability and lower verbal scores), tutoring can be weighted accordingly, which maximizes time spent with a tutor, as opposed to a blanket standard approach. Tutors can target and strengthen specific skills for particularly challenging sections or identify missing underlying basic skills needed for success on standardized exams.
One-to-one exam prep is helpful for all students: mainstream, gifted and college-bound LD/ADD students. Focused preparation can be particularly useful for students with learning differences, where deficits may impact ability to demonstrate mastery on exams. A.T.A.C. tutors can help build skills for the exam around a specific learning difference and assist students with developing strategies for maximizing success. Mainstream students are able to build confidence by boosting test-taking skills, identifying any gaps in their skills and gaining experience working through the rigorous sections. Gifted students are able to raise scores by focusing on the most challenging sections and practicing the most difficult problems. Students are given practice exams to work on at home which are scored and analyzed in tutorial sessions to assess progress.
We recommend a minimum of twelve (12) test prep sessions at least one month prior to the test date. LD students generally need to begin earlier.
