One-to-One Test Preparation
Study Skills & Executive Functioning
ATAC's individualized test preparation services ensure that students work on carefully targeted skills, rather than the blanket generic approach found in most classroom instruction and group tutorials. Students work with expert tutors who coach them through all aspects of test preparation, incorporating essential test taking skills and strategy as well as content-specific tutoring when appropriate. Tutors have had great success with raising the scores for both gifted students as well as those with known skill deficits. Tutors will score students on specific sections of exams before taking the test in order to determine progress and fine-tuning needed before the test date.
Tests include: ISEE, SSAT, Redesigned PSAT & SAT, PLAN, ACT, GRE, AP, SAT Subject Test
All types of students can benefit from developing organizational and planning skills for learning how to approach new problems and break down large assignments in a logical, timely fashion. Students with specific learning issues may require extra assistance in developing these skills, even when their understanding of the subject material may be very high. Our experienced tutors work with students to create and implement study plans tailored to each student's needs, requiring active student involvement in the process to make the plan personal and meaningful. Tutors teach time management to assist balancing the homework load along with test preparation. Organizational skills are taught for note taking and writing as well as project management for mastering challenging long term assignments. Although most students are motivated to learn these new skills when they are incorporated into their existing curriculum or homework load, tutors will also use hypothetical and real world examples to ensure that students develop executive planning skills. We work with many bright students who have wonderful abilities but need to improve both their approach to and production of academic work.
For high-achieving, motivated students, ATAC provides an opportunity to reach for the next level of expertise, whether it's for the pure pleasure of learning more in an area of strength or to accelerate in a specific class. Students who wish to accelerate in a specific course may need to coordinate with their school in advance to see what is required. If a student is simply interested in developing higher level writing skills, researching a topic of high interest or advancing in math, science or foreign language skills, ATAC can design a stimulating program utilizing input from the student and parents, to meet these goals.
